Reading in Concert/Valerie Harris
Reading in Concert is a literature and writing program organized by Philadelphia’s Art Sanctuary which takes place in various locations around the city, including the Paul Robeson House. A special session to discuss Robeson’s contributions to art, culture and political thinking was moderated by Art Sanctuary’s writer Melissa Talley-Palmer.
Reading in Concert participants in the spring of 2009 included Valerie Harris, Sister Cecilia R. Wilson, Rosalyn Seabrook and Gladys W. Tucker.

Valerie Harris is a writer and filmmaker. She’s the founder of the Teen Writers Academy and other Writers Academy programs. She was awarded a   2008/09 Fellow in Arts Commentary from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Harris has taught creative writing at the Robeson House since 2004 and she is developing a multimedia project about the power and value of writing in community.
